Little White Lies "Frankenstein"
Little White Lies has interviewed Guillermo, the film's writer and director, as well as Jacob Elordi and Oscar Issac, the film's lead actors, for this issue. Complementing the pertinent interviews, I was asked to design a triptych of interconnected portraits.
Del Toro has referred to the movie as his "dream project," and this idea ties with that statement. On the first, Guillermo laid in bed with the book in its original form, giving the impression that he had just read it and was dreaming about it. By his side, a motionless figure— still mere idea, but soon to be a Toro's "creature".
Oscar presented as Victor Frankenstein, but from a reverse angle of the bed, as if he is a vision or literally manifesting Guillermo Del Toro’s dreams reminiscent to how the Creature appears at the end of Frankenstein’s bed.
Jacob presented as the Creature, but lurking in the shadows, in the corner of the room, behind where Oscar would be. He seats near failed experiments, scared that he's one of them.
